Akon is the stage name of Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam, who was born on 14 October 1981, and is quite uncommon American r&b singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Akon became popular in 2004 after the release of his hit named "Locked up" from his first album "Trouble". He is a son of jazz percussionist, Mor Thiam and was born in St Louis, Missouri, but grew up in Senegal until he was seven. His solo debut album, titled "Trouble" appeared on 29 June 2004. It presented several hit singles - "Locked up" and "Lonely", as well as "Belly dancer bananza", "Pot Of gold", and "Ghetto". "Ghetto" became a real radio hit when it was remixed by Green Lantern to include the performance of the legendary rappers 2Pac and The Notorious BIG. In 2005, Akon recorded his new song "Lonely", which resembles "Mr lonely" of Bobby Vinton. It became hit and reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the charts in Australia, in the United Kingdom and Germany. His debut compilation also reached to No1 in the United Kingdom in April 2005. His new sophomore album, called "Konvicted", appeared on 14 November 2006.
